It's the first handheld capable of transmitting and receiving on Marine VHF and Family Radio Service (FRS). Additionally, the HX471 can receive AM/FM broadcasts and an aeronautical band. The HX471 is also packed with safety features. It's supplied with a NMEA charging cradle that allows the radio to be connected to a GPS. When connected, the HX471 will store your position in memory. In the event of an emergency, simply grab the the radio and push the DISTRESS Key. It will transmit a DSC distress call containing your position, and it will automatically activate the built-in distress beacon. This beacon is a strobe that can also be used as a light source, continuous beacon, or a beacon broadcasting the Morse Code SOS signal. Of course, the HX471 also packs all the features you would expect including NOAA Weather Alert, Scanning, Dual Watch, Presets, and is completely submersible to JIS7 standards. Powered by a 1300 mAh lithium-Ion battery, the HX471 will deliver 10-12 hours of operation and never develop a "memory" reducing its cycle of service.
